LITERARY AND DEBATING.

CAMBRIDGE SOCIETY. On Monday night the Cambridge Literary and Debating Society brought its 1026 session to a close. A span did entertainment was arranged by Mis G. G. L. Taylor and Mrs 11. L. Posscnniskie. There was a large attendance and the varied programme was much enjoyed. The first part of the programme was composed of musical and elocutionary items, and the second half took the form of a cleverly staged one-act farce entitled "The Stepmother," by Arnold Bennett, and arranged by Mrs \V. J. Ward. The characters were: Cora Prout, a novelist, Mrs Ward; Adrian Prout, her stepson, Mr E. B. Hillam; Thomas Gardiner, a doctor, Mr E. B. Kemslcy; Christine Feversham, Mrs Prout's secretary, Miss Connie Bertlesen.

Musical and elocutionary items were given as follows: —Song, "Youth," Mr ,f. Butler; song, "Sands o'Dee," Miss M. Altwood; monologue, "Temptation,' Mr M. Wilkinson; pianoforte scleclions, Mr Alf Boyce; song, "After Long Years," Mr T. Boyce; burlesque, "Lady Lover and the .lealous Husband," Mrs 11. L. Possenniskie and party; recitation, Mr E. B. Kemslcy.

The singing of the National Anthem brought the programme tp a close, t after which supper was handed round.
