THE ROYAL SHOW.
NEXT WEEK'S GATHERING. RESPONSE FROM BREEDERS. The slalements that Auckland could not produce a Royal Show worthy of the name have had their answer i 4 the magnificent dsiplay of champion horses. cattle, slieop, pigs and dogs which will be exhibited on the Epsom Show Ground, Auckland, on the :10th, 17th, and 18lh instant. The entries in some classes are a record for the. Dominion. To give some slight idea of the heavy exhibits it is only necessary to mention that at Christchurch Royal Show last year 55 pigs were entered, whilst Auckland has the enormous total of 203. The cattle section has 583 entries, horscsViGD, and sheep 527. The committee spared no expense in making the grounds, cattle pavilions and pens right up to date for the Royal Show.
Provision has been made for auction sales of the exhibits of stud cattle, sheep and pigs. Judging demonstrations have been arranged for, and will be an interesting feature for the stock breeders. The jumping events will be a big attraction and the trotting items have received great entries. The boys and girls are well catered for in the jumping. The N.Z. Kennel Club are having a championship display, and the entries are very nearly a record. The naval cadcls of the Philomel are giving a field gun display. The InterHouse Girls' Sports Association are giving a fine programme of events. The cycle road race from Hamilton to the showgrounds lias attracted over 4 0 professional riders from all parts of the Dominion. R. Laskey (N.Z. champion), A. Sutherland (Auckland champion), and other provincial champions have entered for the race, which promises to bo an outstanding event. There will be side-shows on the grounds, and special items have been engaged direct from the Amusement Park of the Dunedin Exhibition. The business community have declared a holiday on November 17, and the city will be in carnival mood from November'ls to 20. In fact, the Royal Show Carnival Week in Auckland will exceed any function the Queen City has ever attempted before. Arrangements have been made with the railway authorities to grant excursion fares from all parts of the North Island.
