RACING IN AUSTRALIA.
FLEMINGTON MEETING. THE BANKER WINS V.R.C. HANDICAP (United Press Association.) MELBOURNE, November 7. The Victoria Racing Club’s spring meeting concluded yesterday in fine weather, when there was again a large attendance at Flemington. The Gov-ernor-Genera!, Lord Stonehaven, was present. Rain fell in the early morning, hut the race track was in capital order. In the decision of the batman Stakes Raron was lying third in the early portion of the race, but finished in fine style, and won easily in the fastest time recorded for the race. Raron is owned by Mr A. T. Craig,, who won the Melbourne Cup with Bilalli in 1923. When a yearling Raron was bought for 1600 guineas. Trivalve, who finished well, won the Flemington Stakes nicely. lie was bred by his owner, Mr E. E. D. Clarke, and was trained by J. Scobie Pantheon led all the way in the C. B. Fisher Plate, and won handsomely, compassing the last ten furlongs in 2.5. Pantheon has now started eight times at Flemington, getting one win and six minor places. The last halfmile was run in 46fsec, which is the fastest four furlongs ever done at Flemington, the next being four by Eurythmic in 47sec. The New Zealand-bred gelding, The Banker, gave Mr O. R. Faikiner a win in the YLR.C. Handicap. The son of Kilbroncy finished up his task in bold style, and scored by a narrow margin. This marked The Banker’s third win since he was purchased by Mr Faikiner. The Banker is trained by C. T. Godby. Gerildery, after racing in the rear in the first round of the Victoria Steeplechase, made his way to the front, and won in good style. He had previously scored on several occasions over the big fences at Flemington. Eridanus came through from fifth place to win the Final Handicap with ease in time equalling the course record at Flemington. Details of the racing:—* BATMAN STAKES.—I mile. Raron, 8.7 1 Epilogue, 8.7 2 King Val, 8.7 3 Nine started. Raron won by half a length, two lengths between second and third. Cairncross was fourth. Time, 1.384. FLEMINGTON STAKES.—6 fur. Trivalve, 8.3 1 Eutoche, 7.7 2 Leontes, 7.7 3 Fifteen started. Trivalve won by a neck, throe-quarters of a length between second and third. Symbolist was fourth. Time, 1.144. C. R. FISHER PLATE.—II miles. Pantheon, 9.5 1 Spearl'elt, 9.4 2 Amounis, 8.11 3 Also started:-Spcarer 9.3. Pantheon won in handsome style. Time, 2.36. ’V.R.C. HANDICAP.—I| miles. The Banker, 9.4 1 Tookarby, 8.7 2 Yalbee, 7.6 - 3 Nine started. In an exciting finish The Banker won by half a neck from Tookarby, with Yalbee three-quarters of a length away in third place. Master YYbrator was fourth. Time 2.59 J. The last four furlongs were run in 47fsec. VICTORIA STEEPLECHASE. About 3 miles and a furlong. Gerildery, 11.0 1 Reparation, 10.0 2 Scotch Thorn, 9.4 3 Six started. Gerildery won by two lengths and a half; fifteen lengths between second and third. Time, 6.15. Dec fell and Talpha was pulled up. FINAL HANDICAP. —ii miles. Eridanus, 7.7 . : 1 Bard of Avon, 7.11 .... 2 Ouragan, 7.8 3 Ten started. Eridanus won by a length and a half, a length between second and third. Cydcn was fourth. Time, 2.4. Ben Lomond was left at the post. QUEENSLAND MEETING. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) BRISBANE, November 7. At the Queensland Turf Club’s meeting yesterday the following was the result of the leading event: — THE QUEENSLAND DERBY. 14 Miles. Kitty Paddington 1 Direct Action 2 Chryso 3 Ten started. Kitty Paddington and Direct Action fought out an exciting finish, the first-named filly gaining the verdict by half a head. Time, 2.332. The Hopeful Stakes, 5 furlongs, resulted: —-Natural Pride 1, King Herod 2, Calthwaile 3. Fifteen started. Natural Pride won by a length and a half. Time, 1.2. ■ ROSEHILL MEETING. (United Press Association.) SYDNEY, November 7. At the Rosehill meeting yesterday the following was the result of the Ladies’ Bracelet (1 mile): —Solomon 1 Siaosi 2, Diamond Plume 3. Twelve started. Solomon won by half a neck. Time, 1.424.
