THE FIRST TEST. CHRTSTCHTJRCH, Saturday. Watts won the bully, but the Indians almost immediately attacked, Soper relieving. Hard billing by the Indian backs resulted in a twentyfive. Dian Chand gained first goal with a fine push shot. After a spell of even play Bcllchambor scored from a rebound from the goalkeeper. Dian Chand then gave Bcllchambcr a shot, but Fletcher kicked clear. Fletcher effected a fine save from a shot, by Cox, but Dian Chand was in position and pushed the ball into the net. India 3, New Zealand 0. A lilllc later Dian Chand again heal Fletcher. India 4, New Zealand 0. Walls opened Ihe score for NewZealand, coming in just after S. Hell had centred, and scoring a neat goal. India 4 New Zealand 1 Half-lime sounded without further score. From the half-time bully India went, away, S. Bell clearing. New Zealand look play lo Ihe Indian circle, hut Dhian Singh relieved. Walts made a great run, and Burton centred, but, a corner resulted. Bellchamber centred, hut Mahoney cleared. The intercepting on both sides was f?~stclass. Dian Chand gave Bellchamber a great chance, but he was off-side. New Zealand were, defending strongly, but could not gel, the ball away. After Bellcharnber had missed, attack and counter-attack ended in Bell scoring for New 7 Zealand close on the call of time. India 4,'New Zealand 2. Fletcher saved twice, bul, from a corner Susainalhan scored from a rebound. The Indian attack was maintained, and Fletcher (the New Zealand goalie) was the busiest, man on the ground.
