HAMILTON BOROUGH.

FORTNIGHTLY COUNCIL MEETING. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. The Hamilton Borough Council met last evening, His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. R. Fow) presided. There were also present: Crs. Farrer, Sims, Luxford, Gilbert, Mason, and Lafferty. Mr W. E. Jones complained of the wretched state of Hinau Street, on the Maeroa Estate, which he said was well nigh impassable.—Referred to Works Committee. The following recommendations by committees were adopted:— Works Committee. Borough Engineer, re Stormwater Drainage at Lake Crescent: That as suggested the Council accept £lO as the Waipa County Council's share of the cost of the drain. Hardware corner: Stormwater and Kerbing, corner Bryce and Victoria Streets. —That the borough engineer report as to the best method and the cost of overcoming the nuisance. 11. Prime and Others and Borough Engineer: Kerbing and Footway, Mvrtle Street —That they be advised that their offer of £32 10s towards the cost of kerbing and the laying of bitumen footways in Myrtle Street will be considered when the loan proposals for footways are dealt with at an early date. Borough Engineer re Stormwater Drain Pipes, Klllarney Road Outlet—That the engineer's recommendation to purchase Napier Concrete Pipe Company's 15in pipes at 6s 3d per foot for piping this stormwater drain be adopted. Borough Engineer re Office That a committee consisting of the Mayor and Crs. Snell and Gilbert be set up to go into the matter of Obtaining suitable office accommodation pending the erection of new buildings. Trading Departments. Advertising Gas Cookers, etc. —That the action of the chairman in arranging for an advertisement dealing with gas cookers and heating appliances to be inserted periodically in the Waikato Times during the winter months be approved. Gas Showroom —That. the gas engineer report, after inquiry, regarding the matter of taking a shop in Victoria Street to be used as a showroom from month to month. —Approved. Gasworks Sinking Fund Payments—The committee reports that after further consideration it confirms its previous recommendation that the gasworks sinking funds payments be — £4400 loan, 2J per cent, per annum; £7OO loan, 21 per cent.; £l3lß loan, 2i per cent.; £38,000 loan, 1J per cent; £12,000 loan, 1 per cent.; £7OOO loan, 1* per cent.; £BOOO loan, 2 per cent.; £4SOO loan, 1 per cent.; £6OO loan, 1 per cent. Price of Gas —That provided the sinking fund payments are reduced as previously recommended a reduction of 5d per thousand be made to all gas consumers, the reduction to take effect in the- readings made after .tunc 1. This involves a reduction in revenue of £707 per annum on last year's consumption of gas. Gas Engineer, re Sale of Coke Breeze—That the matter or selling the coke breeze be lert in the hands of the engineer. Ratepayers' and Citizens' Association re Light at Lake Road Railway Crossing—That the engineer be instructed lo replace the existing light with a larger one, and if necessary alter the position of the bracket. Electrical Engineer re Street Light, Alma Street —That a light be installed at a cost of £5. Public Works Department re i Switch Gear for Underground Cable— That the arrangement suggested by the Department that they pay us the value of the existing line (£419), and that we pay the cost of the switch gear in their sub-station, approximately £505, be accepted. Borough Engineer re Repairs to and Leasing of Frankton Power House —That tenders be invited for the lease of the property as it stands for a term of five years without right of renewal. Tenders Electrical Supplies—That an order be placed with the lowest tenderer (Hudge Electrical Company) for 10 miles of 7/20 cable for service .connections at £127 10s, delivery within four months. Electrical Engineer re Waikato Valley Dairy Company: Supply of Electric Power—That the Council offer to supply them with the additional 25 horsepower on the peak, the charge to be an additional £25 per quarter during the summer quarters, plus id per unit for all units used, and that the 50 k.v.a. transformer at Bandon and Greenwood Streets be replaced with the 100 k.v.a. at present in stock, as recommended by the engineer. Price of Electricity—That the charge for electric lighting be reduced all round by id per unit, to take effect when the meters are read after June 1. This involvse a reduction of £I4OO approximately on last year's lighting consumption. Extension, Kent Street to Norton Road —That to improve the supply at Norton Road and to connect consumers en route the engineer be authorised to run an extension along Kent Street.lo connect at Norton Road, at a cost of approximately £4O. General Purposes Committee. R. M. Mason, re Application for License for "Roll-down" Game —That the application be declined. Public Works Department re Motor Omnibus Regulations—That the Council protests against the regulations being made applicable to Hamilton, and to the severity of the provisions for insurance and for the medical examination of drivers. W. C. Hewitt re Subdivision of Lots 441 and 442 W. Grantham Street—That he be advised that the Council is unable to approve the proposed subdivision. Borougli Engineer re Mrs M. Wilson: Corner Easement, Collingwood and Ruakiwi Road —That the Council accept Mrs Wilson's offer of the corner on the terms set out by the engineer, that arrangements be made to plant the trees immediately, and that she be thanked for the offer. Council In Committee Horse Bazaar Account—That the Horse Bazaar Account be dropped as a separate account, and the balance included in the general account. Library Loan of 10 per cent, of £4ooo—That the town clerk endeavour to raise the £2OO, being the 10 per cent, on the Hamilton portion of the library loan of £4OOO. Water Ctiarges by Meter — That no alteration be made in the method previously adopted of charging for water by meter, in view of the expected alteration ii: the statutes. .Maternity Home—That the proposed allocation of £IOOO for the provision of land for a Maternity Home be held over till the next financial year, pending financial arrangements being completed. Uey Street Formation and Shingling —That in the current year's allocation provision be made for £2OO only towards ttie cost of formation and shingling of Dey Street.
