ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
WHANGAREI, Wednesday. At Houto, between Whangarei and Dargaville, while engaged in blasting logs for splitting into posts, George Williams was severely injured by a charge exploding prematurely. As a result of the accident Williams' clothes caught fire, and he was severely burned all over his body. His companion, a man named Bidwell, was also slightly burned. A third man who was milking in a shed near-by went to the scene of the accident and picked up the injured men who, though conscious, were suffering severely from AUCKLAND, Thursday. An accident occurred at the Church' Road level crossing near Southdown, when a motor lorry was struck by the 5.42 p.m. train from Auckland to Mercer and was smashed to matchwood. Mr William Sheppard, aged 26, owner and driver of the lorry, had some ribs broken, and Mr T. Home was slightly injured about the head and hands. The two men had a miraculous escape. HOKITIKA, Wednesday. An accident which resulted in the death of Mr Robert Brown, an attendant at the Mental Hospital, occurred on the Blue Spur Road this morning.Mr Brown fell from a lorry and fractured his skull. He died shortly after admission to the hospital.
