SALE OF SHORTHORNS.
RANSTEADS' YOUNG STOCK. YEARLING BULL MAKES 180 GNS. The fifth annual sale of young stock at. Messrs Ranstead Bros.' wellknown Mataiigi stud of pedigree Milking Shorthorns was held yesterday in perfect weather. The attendance of breeders was particularly large, but except in the eases of a few special animals, bidding was not particularly brisk. Chief interest centred in a splendid yearling bull, a son of that wonderful producer, Matangi Quality 4th, which gave 978.471 b fat as a senior 4-ycnr-olrl, but which, unfortunately, died this time last year after giving birth to twins, one of which, of course, was the youngster paraded yesterday. Bidding on this choice specimen started at SOgns, rising quickly lo 180gns, at which figure lie was knocked down lo Mr G. D. Hall, of Kio Kio. Another yearling bull realised 105 gns, and two others DO gns and GO gns respectively, the average for the first sis sold being a little over 80 gns. After that, however, the demand fell off. and a number of young bulls were either sold cheaply or passed in altogether. The average for lf> was about -» • i gns. The yearling heifers did not find a very ready market, the average for the nine sold being 20 gns. Following arc the particulars of the sale:—Yearling Bulls.
