HEAVY RAINS.

BRIDGES CARRIED AWAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TAUMARUNUf, -Monday. A tremendous downpour last night caused the rivers to rise rapidly this morning. The Wanganui river is not greatly affected by the Hood waters, although running much above its normal level, but Hie Ungaruc river is high and is carrying much debris with Hie result lhat the TaringamolU bridge was carried away at 11 o'clock this morning. This means that communication north of Taumarunui by road is cut off. A bridge at the same place was carried away by last year's Hoods. The stock bridge at Napier's farm, in Ihe TaringamolU Valley, was also washed away. Fortunately the rain ceased about h o'clock this morning and has held off since. Had the rain continued the Wanganui would probably have risen to a dangerous height.
