MAIN TRUNK RAILWAYS.

THE STRATFORD LINK. EARLY COMPLETION URGED. STRATFORD, Thursday. Tlie Taranaki people intend again to make urgent representations to the Government urging Hie early completion of Hie Stratford Main Trunk railway. Speaking on this subject at the annual meeting of the Stratford Progress League, Mr R. Masters said that because of influences at work in connection with railway construction in other parts of Hie Dominion there was a possibility that, unless Taranaki was wide awake, Hie early completion of Hie railway might lie side-stepped. They must remember that there were many calls on ihe Government for railway construction at present. The conference of South Island progress leagues recently, while urging the completion of the South Island Main Trunk, had entered a strong protest against expenditure on railway construction in the North Island. The fact Dial oilier influences were at work made it necessary that no stone he left unturned in ■ pressing Taranaki’s claims. As the Estimates were now being framed, Taranaki must become active at once, and all organisations throughout the province must cooperate in endeavouring to gel the necessary money placed on the Estimates.
