MATAMATA.

J.H.S. School Picnic. The. annual picnic was held at, Hotorua on Friday. A special train was engaged, and fully ir>oo children and adults attended. The train commenced its journey at Walton, picking up the children at eacli station. The children were, entertained at Rolonia on Ihe lakeside, and ttie elder ones were taken around Ihe sights and also lo the Stale Forestry gardens. The whole affair was a great success, and reflected great credit on those who organised it. From Ihe patronage bestowed by adults it seems as if it would pay Ihe railway authorities to run a similar train once a month during the summer time. The sum paid lo the Railway Department for Ihe train amounted to £ll7 10s.
