"Riders of the Purple Sage" was screened for the first time last night, and held the close attention of a large audience. It is a picture of romance of the West 40 years ago. Mix plays the role of chivalrous soft-spoken cowboy who comes riding forth to avenge his sister,kidnapped by an unscrupulous lawyer- Plan at Jackson's, tobacconist, Theatre entrance, 'phone 1580. NEW STRAND AND FRANKTON. A splendid programme will bo presented at the above Theatre to-night. The course of true love never runs smooth. The truth of this old maxim was discovered by Hoot Gibson in "Taming the West,'' . a UniversalGibson Special. Mareelino Day plays opposite Gibson with a cast including Francis Ford, Morgan Brown, Herbert Prior, Louis Uippe, Albert J. Smith, Edwin Booth Tilton and Frona Otis Harlan, well-known as a screen comedian and a favourite with film and fans, was selected for the role of Puddlebox in the picture version of A. S. M. Hutchinson's famous novel, "The Clean Heart," or "The Cruelties of Life. Although the role is light comedy it hr-s several serious moments and finally leads up to tragedy, giving Harlan opportunity to present a now phase of his histrionic ability. SKATING. Married ladies should note that a special session for learners has been set aside on Thursday afternoon. This novelty proved a big success at New Plymouth, where over 200 ladies / attended, and under Mr. Sorenson's system of teaching no accidents took place.
