AMERICANS AT AUCKLAND. SCHOLZ BREAKS RECORD. AUCKLAND, Saturday. The American athletes, Scholz and Halm, made their final appearance in New Zealand at the Domain this afternoon. Jackson Scholz intimated that in the (bird anil special invitation boat of the 220yds. handicap he was after a record. Scholz was conceding up to 12yds. but ho had the Held beaten with 40yds to go and showing a brilliant burst of speed went right away from his opponents lo win in great style by half a dozen yards The performance was brilliant and when the lime was announced, 21 2-ss. and it was known he had beaten N. J. Grehan's Australasian record of 21 3-ss. there, was much applause for Ihe American, and lie was freely congratulated. Resuts. One Mile Walk.—F. G. Austin. GOyds 1: W. Stewart, 25yds, 2. Won by 200 yards. Time, 7.52.
Half Mile Cylc Championship.— MP. Byrnes 1, V. J. Casey 2, K. J. Blakeway 3. Won very easily by live vards. Time, 1.12 3-5.
100 Yards Handicap, final.—Freeman, 6 A yds. 1: Gordon' 7yds, 2; McCryslal, Gyds, 3. Won by six inches. Time, !i 4-ss. The American, Scholz, did not start.
75 Yards Ladies' Handicap.—Miss I. Lithcrland. 3 Ads, I ; Miss D. Dick, Iyd, 2. Won by a foot. Time, 9 4-uS. One Mile Handicap.—Lloyd Halm, scr, 1; G. Kells. 4 oyds, 2; W. Savidan, 30yds, 3. Ten started. Won by 10yds from Kells, with Savidan the same distance away. Only the three finished. Time, 4.22 2-5. Kells' lime was 4.25, 2-5. 120 Yards Hurdles Handicap.—J. W. Shirley, Byds behind, 1; B. M. Murray, 4yds behind, 2. The only starters. Won by four yards. Time, 17 2-5. One Mile Handicap.—Gainsborough and Casey (dead heal) 1 and 2, Blakeway 3. Six started. A great race, three finishing in line, the judges declaring a dead heat with Blakcway placed third, onlv inches awav Time, 2.3 G 3-5.
