SYDNEY SENSATION.
STERN CHASE BY POLICE. SUSPECT SHOT AT AND KILLED. (United Press Association.) SYDNEY, March 14. A sensational tragedy occurred at Richmond to-day when a supposed motor-car thief named Desire la Court was fatally shot. The. police bad been hot on the tracks of the suspect for three days. The pursuers saw the man yesterday at Lindlickls driving a car which was supposed to have been stolen. They ilrcd several revolver shots as Ihe man sped away, lie escaped, but was believed to have been wounded, as there were bloodstains along the route he look. Later i.i the day the police surrounded a house at Dalgowlah, but the quarry again escaped. He lifted the flooring boards in the house, and when the police rushed the doors he made his way out from beneath the building.
The "man was next traced to an hotel at Richmond. He fled through the back-door when the police entered the front door to-day. He ignored calls to surrender and a shot was ft"rcd in ihe air. Then a constable shot him through the head. He was sent to a hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.
