The college is a handsome two-storeyed building, providing accommodation for about 40 students.

A building known as "Castlerock" containing 15 rooms, or 19 if kitchenettes be included—situated at the foot of Brett's Avenue, Takapuna, was destroyed by fire on Saturday evening. The property was owned by Mr J. E. Cochrane, on Ngahinepouri, and leased by Mr George White, who lived there with his wife and family, and let four sections in flats.

Harvest Festival Thanksgiving Services were held at the First Presbyterian Church yesterday. At both the morning and evening services there were largo attendances, the Church being heavily taxed to provide accommodation. The preacher in the morning was the Rev. B. Morgan, who delivered an interesting and impressive address. The Rev. A. M. Aspland was in the pulpit in the evening and treated the congregation to an inspiring and powerful sermon.

The recent meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club, which was held at the course of the Auckland Trotting Club at Epsom, proved very successful, both from racing and financial points of view. A rough balance-sheet which has been drawn up estimates the profit on flic meeting at approximately £2500. In view of the extensive alterations and improvements to he made at the club's course at Claudelands, this pronounced addition to the club's finances will be very welcome. The scheme of railway improvements at Pacroa, which is to be one of the junctions of the East Coast railway, is being pushed forward. The site of the new station is about a mile closer to Thames than where the old station was located, and the accommodation there, which is to be very extensive, is being pushed forward, as rapidly as possible. There remains a good deal of work to do, but everything will be well forward before the East Coast Main -Trunk taps this sector.
