TE KOWHAI.

Tennis Social.

A most enjoyable tennis social was held in the hall on Wednesday evening, visitors being present from the adjacent districts. Lucky spot dance prizes were won by Mr and Mrs Porter and Miss Clear and Mr A. Mitchell. The music was supplied by Miss M. Nicol (violin) and R. Gillespie, junr. (piano), while extras were contributed by Misses Clear and Marwood and Mr S. Weatherley. The duties of M.C. were carried out efficiently by Mr H. Mitchell. The Roads. The roads around Te Kowhai are now in good order, though the metalling is showing traces of the heavy and consistent motor traffic. The deviation, commonly known as "Magncrs," saves a certain amount of distance and rough travelling, ihough the telephone pole left in the middle of the road is a potential source of danger. I The School. Our school reopens on Monday after the Christmas vacation. Our two new assistants are Miss C. Bclaney, of Matamata, and Miss M. L. R. Hoylc, of Avondale. Personal. The many friends of Mr N. A. H. Cotter will regret to hear that he is now an inmate of a private hospital in Hamilton suffering from a severe attack of appendicitis. The Farm. Harvesting is now about completed, and most farmers are assured of a plentiful supply of winter hay. Several oat crops have also been garnered. The popular harvest at present is mushrooms, which are very early this year, and far more plentiful than they were last year.
