WILL THE SIXTEENTH GO? ERRORS OF THE SELECTORS. (United Press Association/) (Received January 29, 11.0 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 29. The Cricket Board of Control has approved the selection of the three additional players, who have accepted the invitation to join the English tour.
The question of sending sixteen players will be decided next week. While the Board is anxious to assist the players, it is known that several members do not favour the suggestion to send sixteen. Although no names are mentioned, it is understood that Everett has been nominated as th-j extra man.
Critics generally consider the selectors made an error in selecting twelve certainties early in the season. They express the opinion that younger players should have replaced some of the older men in the interests of the game in the future. LORD HAWKE'S VIEWS. (Received January 29, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 28. At the annual meeting of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club Lord Hawke said he did not agree with the suggestion for a reduction of county matches during the Test years. "The Australians have a big programme and much travelling and entertainment, therefore our chances are not endangered on this score. I would like the selectors and" all the team to stay at the same hotel, so that they could discuss points. If the players agree I feel it could be arranged." Referring to four-day Tests, Lord Ilawkc said it is too late now to alter the arrangements. He thought that If there was a will to play the game the present fairly long hours would enable the matches to be brought to a conclusion.
