Lord Emmolt, speaking at Bradford on the occasion of the Royal Charter being granted the Textile Institute, declared that British manufacturers had been too apt to despise scientific methods. Germany led the world in dyeing. British motor car manufacturers were mainly imitators. Britain was not included in the first three nations in the new artificial silk industry. Now Italy was pioneering the artificial wool.
