CHANGE IN POLICY.
SOME RETIREMENTS PENDING
(By Telegraph—Special to Times.) WELLINGTON,' Thursday.
Various rumours are current in the Public Service that a number of retirements, including those of certain heads of Departments were immediately pending. Inquiries by a reporter elicited thal it was generally expected in the Service that ihe practice which is in force in the Railways and Post and Telegraph Departments, whereby officers on reaching 40 years’ service arc to lie cumpulsorily retired, would he followed in the general Public Service.
It has been ascertained that what is known as the 40-year rule is not considered wholly applicable lo the general Public Service, hut that a number of officers who have con plctcd 40 years’ service will receive notice of retirement in tiie near future, and that that policy will he generally followed.
