FIRE AT FRANKTON.

EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK.

The Hamilton Fire Brigade was called out shortly after daybreak this morning to extinguish an outbreak of fire at a shop and dwelling in Commerce Street. Used as living apartment only, the building is owned and occupied by Mr Peter Murtagh, contractor, of Hamilton. Mrs Murtagh and her young family were awakened by the crackling of the flames. The fire engine and a full muster of firemen were on the spot a few minutes after receiving the alarm. The brigade was successful in confining the flames to the pantry and wash-house. The outbreak had every appearance of being caused by a spark from a copper, which had apparently smouldered for many hours before igniting. The building and furniture are covered by policies for £SOO and £l5O respectively, in the Ocean, Accident, and Guarantee Corporation, Ltd.
