TOM WALSH.
WILL HE BE DEPORTED? SYDNEY PAPER SAYS YES. We are able to state definitely on unimpeachable authority that the “Commonwealth Ministry lias received the Deportation Board’s report on the case of Mr Tom Walsh, and is entirely satisfied with its findings (says the Sydney Daily Telegraph). Further than that our information does not go, hut it can have only one meaning in the light of the Government’s attitude to Mr Walsh, and unless the Labour Party wins the elections, apparently only one consequence to Mr Walsh. The clause of the Immigration Amendment Act, which deals with this matter, makes it clear that before the Minister can summon a person before a Board to show cause why he should not be deported, lie himself must he “satisfied" that the accused has been guilty of certain offences which are specified os justifying his exile. Therefore, it seems beyond doubt that if the Ministry is “satisfied” with the finding of the Board, the Board must have found that Mr Walsh has not shown sufficient cause why he should he allowed to remain in Australia. At least that seems to be the obvious inference. Probably there will he a delay over election day in the announcement of the Government's intentions. That is' inevitable in the circumstances, more especially as the Minister responsible, Senator Pearce, is absent in West Australia, and it would naturally take some little lime for the papers in the case to he dealt with.
