COURAGEOUS YOUTH.
TWO HEROIC DEEDS; IN FIRE AND FLOOD. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.) DARGAVILLE, Thursday. A fire last night in the operating box of the Pukehuia settlers' hall destroyed a film to the valuo of £SOO. A picture performance was proceeding at the time when tho film caught fire, Igniting the films in the room. While the operator, Mr. Currie, was extinguishing -he reel in use, a yogng man, H. Snowden, courageously rushed Into tho oporatlng box, and carried out the blazing film, being severely burnt In the act. The picture performance was being „lven under the auspioes of the Y.M.C.A., which has been particularly unfortunate rocently, as only a little over a month ago It had a quantity of film destroyed In Its own hall, which was totally dostroyed by fire. Beyond the loss of films and the damage done to the operating box and projecting machine, no other serious damage was done to the present hall. The young man, Snowden, who was very severely burnt while removing the film from the building, was also the hero of another courageous act In the afternoon, when he rescued a young girl from drowning in tho Wairoa River, nearby tho scene of the fire.
