BOWLING.

1820 NORTH ISLAND TOURNEY. APPLICATION BY HAMILTON. (By "Toucher.") The bowling season is now with us and oh all the greens ttiere is activity, which indicates .that players will soon be rolling up at then- favourite pastime. The South Auckland Centre has resolved that the Club holding a tournament in the future send a statement of receipts and expenditure to the Centre after each tournament. The Council of the South Auckland Centre at its latest meeting considered several matters of.marked interest to the game. The Ngaruawahia Club forwarded recommendations: — (1.) That the Association institute a competition for rink stars open to affiliated clubs, with the idea of developing champion rink's. (-2.) That the Association arrange inter-club matches at the beginning of the season on the same . lines as football fixtures are arranged. It was resolved that the secretary -write to the Ngaruawahia Club acknowledging receipt of the letter, arid asking the Club to bring forward a complete scheme at the annual meeting to be held next year. A letter was received by the Council from the Dominion Association in which they advised that Tauranga had written the Association stating that it was the wish of the Club to secede from this Centre and affiliate with the Auckland Centre. Their reason was that it was much easier to travel to Auckland than to the Waikato, owing to the bad state of the roads. No official application haying been made from Tauranga to the Centre along these lines, it was unanimously agreed that the secretary write to the Club asking further information, with the hope'that Tauranga would not press the point of breaking away from the Centre, seeing that their main objection is now removed by the improved railway communications with the bulk of the clubs in the Centre. It was also thought by the members that before Tauranga could be allowed to secede from the Centre the opinion of the other affiliated clubs would need to be obtained.

(It was rioted that the New Zealand Council at the annual meeting consented to Tauranga's application — "Cover Point.") The Council of the South Auckland Centre has made application to the Dominion Association for , permission to hold a North Island Tournament !u Hamilton, commencing; February 1, 192 G, as this date would take in the ordinary South Auckland fixture and immediately precede the Rotorua tournament. The secretary is to get the assurance of the Combined Hamilton Tournament Committee that they would take over the responsibility of the tournament, and the Centre Committee to give them all assistance. The Combined Tournament Committee members agreed to personally see that good accommodation was supplied to all visiting bowlers in the event of the North Island Tournament taking place in Hamilton.
