MORRINSVILLE.

A. AND P. SOCIETY. On the 15th inst. a meeting of the committee of the above society was held in Mr C. 11. McKay's office. Those present were Messrs J. Gaddes (chairman), G. Howie, N. Scott, F. Marshall, Cameron, McDavitt, Bodmin, Gray, Philpott, P. Thomas, Leggatt, J. Goodwin, P. McNaughton and R. G. Saxon. Mr Norman Clifford was engaged to collect all outstanding subscriptions, amounting to about £l3O. Sub-committees were elected as follows:—Finance: Messrs G. Howie, W. C. Cargill, W. E. Jerram, H. Marshall, and C. McDavitt. Schedule Committee: Messrs G. Howie, Glynn, Marshall, McNaughton, P. Thomas, and Saxon. Grounds: Messrs C. • Cameron, Howie, McNaughton, G. Irvine, G. Berry, C. Leggctt, N. Scott. Mr P. S. Philpott was appointed to take charge of members' canteen. It was stated by the secretary (Mr C. H. McKay) that the society could only charge one shilling for. admission to the Bccreation Grounds, but he hoped that by the society's lowering the charge a much larger crowd might reasonably be expected. It was also stated by the secretary tbat out of a total of «0 signatures required for guaranteeing the establishment of the show, only 34 drafts at sight had been signed so far. It was stated that intending signatories could send in their papers as soon as possible, so as to ensure a successful show. Canvassers were appointed for the various districts as follows;—Motomaoho, Messrs C. S. Leggett and A. Lambie; Morrinsville, Messrs J. B. Thomas and W. C. Cargill; Kuranui Road, Messrs 0. Glynn, N Scott nnd Saxon; Taukoro Boad. .1. Goodwin; Tauhel, Messrs J. B. Harris and A. Noble; Mangataparu, Messrs C. Nraber and E. C. N. Bobinson; Kiwitahi, Messrs B. McCausland and G. Berry; Tatuanui, Messrs P. S. Phlllpot, C. Boyce and N. Dcy; Kereone, Messrs J. B. Thomas, McNaughton, and W. J. Altkcn; Tahuna, Messrs E. H. Whitechurch, P. G. Hart, and B. Orr. , The following gentlemen were appointed as stewards: —Messrs Leggett, Saxon, Bodmin, N. Scott and J. Scales. Orphans' Club. On Tuesday night a party of the local brethren journeyed to Matamata to attend the local korcro, and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. An ' excellent programme of music was gone through, and the visiting clubs, To Aroha and Morrinsville, gave a pood account of themselves. sant experience of helping a brother in distress, whose car and load of five of the "good and true variety" got bogged on that beautiful stretch of road between Kereone and Walton. After the united efforts of two other carloads the stuck car was abandoned for the night. The party arrived home about 4 a.m., happy, although somewhat muddy. R.C. Dance. At the Empire Theatre, Morrinsville, a most enjoyable dance was held last Monday evening by the Roman Catholic Dance Committee. The theatre was beautifully decorated 1 with coloured paper streamers, with numerous pot plants, fern and a profusion of ilowers adorning the stage, arranged as a drawing room. The whole dance went with a swing, and great credit is due to the committee, who worked hard to make the ball the undoubted success it was. The chapcrones were Mesdamcs Mannion, Alec Bcange, T. J. Byan, McDonald, Strcvcns, Hickey, Mellow and Chapman. The Elite Jazz Band added In the enjoyment of the evening, and Messrs O'Connor and McDonald capably carried out the duties of M.G. An excellent supper was served in the small hall at the back of the stage, and a charming bevy of ladies waited upon the three relays of guests. During supper extras were played by Mrs M. A. The old Horticultural Society was re-formed at the annual meeting held i last Thursday night, this following

on a discussion of the A. and P. and Horticultural societies, which have decided to split into two separate bodies. Mrs Clement Cargill presided over the meeting, which was attended by about 12 members. It was stated that the secretary had a cash balance of £26, together with fittings, etc., and the position was financially sound. Subscriptions were as formerly, 7s 6d.

The following officers were elected:—Patron, Bis Worship the Mayor (Mr G. Howie); president, Mr W. E. Jerram; vice-president, Mr W. Morrice; committee —Mesdamcs Butler, Chadwick, Cornish, Jerram, and Moncrieff, and Messrs Cargill, Scott, Greig and Oates; Schedule Committee —Mesdamcs Chadwick, Cornish and Jerram, and Messrs Arnold and A. Scott; Prize Committee —Mrs Chadwick and Messrs Greig and Banan. The appointment of secretary was left to the committee. School Concert. On the occasion of the Morrinsville school concert the Empire Theatre, in which it was held last Thursday night, was thronged with the proud parents of the performers and others. Approximately 100 children entertained the audience, and the items submitted were excellent. The teachers, Miss E. O'Brien, Miss Hewitt, Miss Cousin, Miss Bygate, Miss Johnson, Mr Campbell, Mr Hill and Mr O'Connor, have every reason to feel proud of the results of their labours, and it must have been very gratifying to the parents to see the talent that their youngsters possessed. The whole proceedings went with a swing and some of the scenes were set and acted in a beautiful manner.

Worthinpton; Imps of the Sea, Standard IV girls; Huntsman's Chorus, Standard 111 boys; Goon Concert, Standards V and Yi; Maypole, Standards HI and IV girls; Goodnight, Mr Moon, Standard II; "Forty Years On," All. God Save the King. Misses Seville and Peace acted as aceompanists. Without the least exaggeration it is safe to say that the children as a whole proved themselves exceptionally fine entertainers and all agreed that the concert was an unqualified success. The school fund account has been considerably increased thereby and a future concert is eagerly looked forward to.
