At Stratford to-day the GovernorGeneral and Lady Jcllicoe were farewelled by the Mayor and Council and an enthusiastic gathering. Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P. for Wanganui, who has been laid up for several weeks through illness, resumed bis parliamentary duties on Tuesday. Mr Malcolm Fraser, Government Statistician, returned to Wellington by the Maunganui, after attending the conference of statisticians and scientists in Australia. Mr J. Donald, who has been acting as relieving officer at Frankton, has been appointed slationmaster at Lamblon, and left for Wellington last evening. In connection with a ielegram from Dunedin stating that Miss Thurston, matron of Pukeora Sanatorium, Waipukurau. had been appointed matron of Dunedin Hospital, it is now announced that Miss Thurston has declined the position. An official farewell was tendered to the Governor-General at New Plymouth yesterday, when a large gathering of citizens assembled in Everybody's Theatre, where addresses were given by the Mayor, county chairman, and Colonel Weston (on behalf of the returned soldiers). Lord Jellicoe suitably replied. The resignation of Mr J. P. Kalaughe.r, supervisor of the manual and technical branch, was yesterday tendered In Uie Auckland Education Hoard. Mr Kalaughcr is retiring on superannuation at the end of October. The board expressed its Inch appreciation of his services, and it was decided that Mr D. W. Dunlop, advisory Inspector, should carry on Mr Kalaugher's duties. Mr Kalaugher came from Canterbury about 14 year* ago lo join the staff of the Seddon Memorial Technical College. He was appointed to the position of sjpervjsor of the manual and tcchnUv''' branch about two years later.
