DISASTER IN NEW YORK.

COLLAPSE OF A RAIL. 70 BOYS INJURED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) NEW YORK, January 19. The balcony railing at an indoor athletic meeting collapsed, 300 boys being precipitated to the floor. Seventy were injured, many of lham seriously. Six thousand boys and their parents crowded the largo Armory building at Brooklyn to watcn an inter-school track contest, and several hundred boys filled the balcony above the track. During an exciting finish of the 440yds run the boy.s crowded forward on the balcony railing. Mothers fainted as, amid shrieks, a writhing mass of boys was precipitated into the centre of the floor. The parents rushed forward in a panic, resulting in 25 police reserves and firemen being called out. Many of the boys were trampled !o death.
