FRENZIED BANDITS' RAIDS.
A TOWN DEVASTATED. POPULACE SLAUGHTERED. FOREIGN MISSIONARIES FLEE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received December 8, 11.30 a.m. PEKIN, Dec. 6 Advices state that bandits led bv the notorious Lao Yar.gren scaled the walls of Likivankia, in the southeastern Honan orovince, burned the houses and slaughtered the population, leaving 2000 dead and wounded. The marauders displayed extraordinary frenzy, tying groups of the townspeople and pouring kerosene on them, igniting them info living torches. The report, which was delayed for a fortnight, due to Likwanka's isolated position declares that so great were the number of killed that a vast pit was dug for common internment. The foreign missionaries fled from the district while Nangrec's followers were burning the mission stations. The bandits terrorised the- countryside for miles around, the cliieftan anouncing that he would Lill all who opposed them.
