CHINESE IN CONFLICT.

ONE WOUNDS ANOTHER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Monday. As a result of a stabbing affray at market gardens at Panmure, in which Ah Chu flourished a garden fork and wounded Shing in the face during an altercation, Shing was in hospital for 11 days. A prosecution arising out of Ihe incident was heard at the Police Court to-day. Owing to the reluctance of the chief Crown witness, the charge of wounding so as to cause actual bodily harm, preferred against Ah Chu, aged 27, was reduced to common assault, accused being convicted and ordered to pay costs £4 12s.

The Magistrate remarked that Shot; Sing, the Chinaman assaulted, had made up his mind not, lo get his countryman into trouble, and il was useless lo send the case to Ihe Supreme Court.
