TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS.

PUTARURU SERVICE. TUESDAY "RETURN" WANTED. ■ AUCKLAND EVENING, EXPRESS. Train arrangements and time-tables have been subjects of discussion at meetings of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce for many months past, and last night theyagain came before the Chamber, when the local Stock Auctioneers' Association wrote suggesting that Tuesday, now being sale-day, would be a much more suitable day on which to run the proposed return train from Putaruru to Frankton to enable residents of that district to visit Hamilton and return the same day. It was decided to ask the Railway Department to grant an afternoon train from Hamilton to Putaruru on Tuesday, in addition to the one already running on Tuesday. The Auckland Chamber of Commerco notified that at its last meeting it was deckled to write to the Railway Department, pointing out that the existing time-table between Auckland and Hamilton was unsatisfactory from an Auckland business point of view. The importance of these two cities was emphasised, and their close proximity it was considered warranted a better service, particularly a fast passenger one that would enable Auckland people to leave Auckland in the morning, to spend a few hours in Hamilton, and return the same'evening.

The Auckland Railways and Development League also wrote, requesting the Chamber's continued support in seeing that the provinco receives a reasonable proportion of public works expenditure. Mr J. E. Tidd thought it would be futile to approach the Railway Department in view of the latter having previously explained to the' Chamber that ll was not possible to put on this train at present. He moved that while the Chamber had every sympathy with the Auckland request it was thought desir able to leave the matter in abeyance for six months. The motion was carried.
