A disquieting discovery in one of the Government Departments, which has considerable dealings with the public led to an investigation by the auditors, with the result it is now stated that a sum approaching £IOOO is missing. It is understood the police have the matter ~in hand, though no official confirmation on this point is vouchsafed. Rumour also has it that inquiries are being made regardng the whereabouts of a certain'person, who if he could be found, should be able to throw light on the matter.
