TE AROHA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The finals of the golf championships took place at. Te Aroha on Wednesday. „ _ .„ f i i n the senior division J. Somers beat F. Halligan 3 and 2. The first round did not bid for sound golf, but in the second Halligan went round in 37 and Somers in 40. making the former up Halligan increased his lead at the hole to 5 up, but at this stage Somers developed great form and splendid soli was witnessed. Halligan was penalised for a good drive by being bunkered. Somers continued to make up leeway and at the 33rd hole was 2 up. At the 34th, 304yds, Somers drove a phenomenal ball (280yds), 'made a short (some 6ffr outside the green), and holed in his third, making him 3 and 2. Somers and Halligan exhibited some brilliant driving, many being of 250 yards. The ladies’ senior match was won by Mrs Halligan, who beat Mrs Hun-, ger 6 up. Both ladies played good golf. The winner’s card averaged 42. In the junior division Wyllie defeated Harvey Bliss 2 up, the game being very closely contested. The lady junior champion is Mrs Lipsey, who defeated Miss Ranby—last year’s junior champion.
