PISTOLS IN A PRISON.

v SILENCED BY MACHINE GUNS. AUTHORITIES TAKE NO RISK. Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. NEW YORK, October 4. The three desperadoes who mutinied at the State Penitentiary at Eddysville, Kentucky, shot one of the guards and wounded thrpe others, and who subsequently entrenched themselves in an empty dining hall, have been besieged by the militia. The convicts have apparently been silenced after the second day’s resistance by the'fire of machine guns, which, during one day, consumed 25,000 rounds of ammunition.

The prison authorities believe the mutineers are cither killed or wounded, but the militia force prefers to wait for daylight before further investigation. They consider there is a. possibility that the desperadoes might be withholding their fire and conserving their ammunition for a last desperate stand. The three wounded guards have died from their injuries.
