QUARRY LOAN CARRIED

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

THAMES, Thursday. A poll of ratepayers was taken yesterday over an area of Thames county whether £IO,OOO should be borrowed to equip and work the Matatoki quarry. Meetings were held over the district and addressed by Mr H. Lowe, county chairman, who explained the object of opening the quarry. The present quarry was too far from the main road, and the cost of installing machinery and cartage was considerable, and as the main road from Thames to Hikutaia will be started shortly metal is urgently needed. The voting was:—For the proposal, 99; against, 19.
