INTER-IMPERIAL TRADE.

DUTY ON DRIED FRUIT. AN ASSERTION RIDICULED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. LONDON, October 1. Dominion trade circles ridicule the assertion of an Australian newspaper that the British Government has decided to impose a 10 per cent, duty on foreign dried fruits. It is pointed out that the Dominions' dried fruits already receive preference of one-sixth compa?-ril with foreign, and any alteration in the amount of preference is much more likely to be in the direction of an increase than a decrease. There is little doubt that the Dominions at the Economic Conference will press for larger preference against foreign products.
