WAR MEMORIAL.

THE CAMBRIDGE MOVEMENT. The Cambridge publio, who have almost ceased asking when the war memorial is to be finished, will be gtod to learn that the statuary is completed and will arrive in Cambridge in the course of-a day or two. The cause of the delay - has been the very great difficulty ■■'' in procuring the granite of proper size and-quality. The chairman of the Memorial Committee (Mr H. Alan Bell), received a letter from the late secretary (Mr G. 11. Wallaee) describirg the statuary in which he says: "I took the advantage of seeing the statuary just completed, and to my lay mind, the sculptor has done his work well. I am sure the figure-will convey messages to which it would almost be profane on my part to give utterance. As I stood and looked at- the statue standing in the workshop, I seemed to instinctively bare my head as if the figure actually had life, and demanded reverence from those in its presence. Mr Gross seems to love work and in consequence is proud of the figure now that he has finished it. He says it was worth while waiting to get the stone of proper size and quality, and hopes that when the memorial is complete, the Cambridge people, especially those who are vitally interested, will have no regrets that' the work was so long delayed. Mr Gross informed me that the block of marble for the statue weighed 3 tons 15. cwt and that for the figure of the lion 3 tons 10 cwt when he started his work."

This is indeed good news for the citizens of Cambridge and districts and from the facts gained from Mr Wallace's letter, the memorial when completed, will be worthy of those in whose memory it is erected.
