The committee aim at raising over £3OO. The question of refunding the payment made by three directors of- the New Zealand Meat Packing and Bacon Co., in fulfilment of their guarantee to the bank, was discussed at a meeting of the Bombay Dairy Farmers'" Union. Opinion seemed evenly divided, some members supporting the principle of standing by the men who had been so heavily involved. All present agreed that the right course was being adopted in putting the matter lo a vote of suppliers to the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Co., and it was resolved to congratulate Mr Saxby, of Tatuanui, on his successful efforts to secure a ballot, and that the decision be left to individual members to vole as they chose.

A drastic innovation in the regulations governing leave of absence at teachers' training colleges lias been gazetted, and was discussed by the Auckland Education Board yesterday. It was explained that the effect of the change was that a limited amount of leave already allowed for teachers during two years of training was relatively curtailed and made applicable lo the whole 35 years or a teacher's service. The idea was to bring the conditions into line with the Civil Service conditions on leave of absence. Mr T. U. Wells remarked that lie did not think there -was any comparison between the strain on a girl typist in a Public Serviee oftiee and the strain on a girl teaching 00 or 70 children. This point of view was generally endorsel. and the Board decided to communicate with the Department with a view lo having the old leave of absence conditions restored.

''My word Ethel this linoleum In the kitchen is looking very shabby, and I almost think the dining room could do with a new floor covering also."— "You're right, mother!" remarked thel, "our lloors are looking very shabby, and for quite a little outlay to-day we could select something that would give good service for years. I saw a beautiful range of linoleums at Hooker and Kingston's, and they are quite 2 shillings a yard under anyone else, smart little carpets for the hall, charming carpets ror the dining and breakfast rooms. Hooker and Kingston seem to be catering to-day for the furnishings trade—and there Is no doubt their prices are attractive, at least in linoleums and carpets."

A poll is being taken to-day for the election of a permanent board for the proposed Waikato-West Coast railway district.
