TE KOWHAI.
Tennis. The annual meeting of the Tennis Club was held on Saturday last. A fair number attended and there are indications of a much Increased interest in the game this season. A small balance was anounced by the Secretary and it -was decided to expend this in two new nets, also as funds were available to tar the courts. It was decided to open the courts on Saturday, 28th. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr W. R. Gillespie; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Fulton; committee, Mesdames H. Stewart, W. Limmer, Miss Nicol and Messrs R. Stewart, H. Bennett, Fulton and N. Holmes (chairman). Personal. The many friends of Mrs S. Handley will regret to hear that she is now in the Waikato Hospital, having undergone an operation for appendicitis. Latest advices are that she is making satisfactory recovery. Obituary. Mrs Ambrose Howell has just received news of the death df her mother, Mrs Thora Hansen of Rangitikei. Mrs Hansen was a very old colonist having resided at Rangitikei for 51 years. She was very much respected in- her district and leaves a family of eight children and 27 grandchildren to mourn their loss.
