■Mr C. R. Cooke, manager of the Thames Star, was in Hamilton to-day. Dr. S. K. Datta, after a tour of the • Dominion, returned to Sydney by the Manuka yesterday. The Hon. Dr. Collins, M.L.C., is leaving England shortly on his return journey to New Zealand. Mr 11. E. Holland, Leader of thd Labour Party, will spend the week- . end in Hamilton. He will leave for Tc Kuiti on Monday. This morning he visited tre Ruaktva State Farm.
Constable Armstrong;, of Otorohanga, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant and lias been appointed to tlie Wellington City ’force.
Mr Lcn Barnes (baritone), who will sing in “The Messiah’" with the Hamilton Choral Society, is expected to arrive in Wellington from England on November 28th. Mr Barnes will also sing in the oratorio with the Wellington .Dunedin and Auckland Societies. The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe* proposes to leave Wellington by thd Main Trunk express on Monday for Taumarmjui,'where he will perform tho opening ceremony of the school and fulfil other official engagements. Tlie Rev. B. F. Rothwell, president of tlie Methodist Conference, who suffered a severe stroke about four weeks ago, is making satisfactory progress toward recovery. Presidential duties have been taken over by the ex-president, the Rev. Mr Grigg, of Wanganui.
