HORSHAM DOWNS.

The Cheese Factory.

On August 1, which is two months earlier than last season, the local factory opened for making cheese. Considering the early date and the absence of much feed, the supply to the factory is very good indeed. Although the factory did not start making cheese till October last year, the company had a very successful season and the final payment will be is 9d or thereabouts. The Horsham Downs Dairy Company holds -a reputation for good quality cheese, and won the shield in 1921-22 season and were runner-up in 1922-23 season, being only beaten by half a point. In addition this factory's oheese has won many prizes in the local shows. In connection' with a report which appeared in the -Waikato Times a few weeks ago, stating that our factory made 81 tons of cheese less than the previous season, it may toe mentioned that cheese was not made for the first two months of last season, and we used the factory as a skimming station during August and September. This accounts mostly for the difference in the amount manufactured* The factory has lost a few suppliers, some having left the district, but I am pleased to say that most of the farms have been re-occupied and we have quite a number of new suppliers. A number of our suppliers who were led to believe that butter would be the best proposition last season are likely to return to cheese, so we are In hopes that our output this season wdl be quite equal to previous seasons, if not better. Everything is up-to-date in our little factory, and under the able management of Mr Sawers suppliers are assured of everything to their advantage.

The Roads. Our roads have been in a bad state this winter owing to much heavy traffic during the had weather, but with the spell of fine days and certain repairs which have been effected, their condition is now fairly good.
