EMPIRE EXHIBITION.

MEETING OF COUNCIL.

WORKING DAIRYING EXHIBIT.

At a meeting of the Dominion Advisory Council, Mr L. 0. Hooker (organiser of the recent "Week for the Empire"), of Hawera, submitted a proposal from the South Taranaki district to erect a working dairy exhibit in the New Zealand Pavilion. Mr Hooker pointed out that the people of Taranaki considered that they possessed the first dairying district in the Dominion, and felt that some special effort should be made to represent the dairying industry other than what was being undertaken by the combined dairy associations. Their scheme would consist of the installation of a modern milking plant. It had been suggested that a model of a modern dairy factory would also bo shown. The council unanimously decided to accept the. offer, and it is understood that the preparation of the exhibit will be commenced forthwith. Three hundred square feet is being allotted for this district, also suitable wall space for displaying photographs and matter of a similar nature.

Professor Worley, of Auckland, who was recently in Wellington, informed the secretary that he had secured a comprehensive set of photographs with which to illustrate at the British Empire Exhibition the kauri gum industry. This exhibit, when forwarded, will be one of the finest that will havo left the Dominion. A film will also be shown at the Exhibition depicting the gum-fields, the men at work, the collection of the gum, and its treatment. Particularly fine photographs of kauri trees will also be shown. The Auckland District Committee has been paying special attention to this important feature. One of the chief points of Interest will be the mineral exhibit, the preparation of which is in the hands of a special sub-committee comprising Dr. Henderson, Messrs T. 0. Bishop, A. H. Kimbell, J. A. C. Bayne, and A. Leigh Hunt. The exhibit will be most comprehensive in character. For instance, a fireplace offered by the Redcliffs Redstone Quarry Company will display the latent possibilities with regard to redstone obtained in Christchurch. Samples of New Zealand coal will be shown from all the important mines. Photographs will assist the visitors to grasp the extent of the New Zealand coal resources. A pamphlet dealing with the mineral section has been written by Dr. Henderson describing the mineral resources of the Dominion. The majority of the harbour boards have intimated that they will allow all goods for exhibition purposes to pass over the wharves free of charge. Special legislation is being arranged for to enable this to be done.
