ATHLETIC CASH CLUB.
FORMATION IN HAMILTON.
, With the object of forming an Athletic Cash Club in Hamilton, a meeting was held in the Theatre Royal last evening. Mr M. Randrup, the convenor, presided, and said that good trophies must be offered if good sportsmen were desired. There was nothing better than witnessing good athletes in action. He had seen the best of them both in Australia and New Zealand, and their perfection had only been brought about by strict training and living clean lives. Our best athletes sprang chiefly from the working class, and probably would never have come into prominence had it not been for the fact that Cash Clubs offered sufficient inducement in the way of prize money. Cash will bring out the best athletes, and they will train to perfection when inducement warrants it. The speaker said he felt sure that a Cash Club would bring into the field the best of our athletes, and they would be well worth seeing in action, and merit the support of the public. He had spoken to several gentlemen of the town on the subject, men who were athletes of their day and ■ still took an interest in athletic sport, and they had promised the Club their whole-hearted support. A rather animated discussion ensued as to the advisability of forming such a club, several endorsing the previous speaker's remarks, while others were in favour of. maintaining their amateur status. Finally it was decided to continue with the formation of the club, the following officers' being appointed: Patron, Hon. R. F. Bollard; president, Mr J. A. Young, M.P.; secretary, Mr J. J. Herrick; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Rawlinson, R. T. Reid, C. Trigg, H. Tristram, J. Teddy (Senr.), E. Tisch, F. Innes, B. Innes, Vickery, C. Holloway, W. Stevens, Choate, A. E. Manning, A. C.
