However, another operation may be necessary before he is completely restored to health. Mr W- D. Shaw, merchandise manager of the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Coy. at Te Kuiti, has been promoted .to the position of Merchandise Inspector for head office and branches. Mr ,F. Franklin will succeed Mr Shaw at Te Kuiti, in charge of the merchandise dept. ' . Mr David D'Arcy, the well-known coursing breeder, died recently at Geelong. After his entrant had won the Australasian Waterloo Cup at ' Warwick (Queensland) Mr D'Arcy journeyed to Geelong for the Victorian Cup, and contracted a chili, pneumonia supervening. The late Mr D'Arcy was well-known to coursing followers in the Waikato, as he was a member ,of the party that came over from Australia to assist at the Australasian Waterloo of 1921, which •was decided at Frankton.

At yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Board of Education the following appointments of teachers were authorised: —Whitikahu, teacher, Miss M F O'Connor; Maungatautari No. i, teacher, Mr L. J. Nobbs; Frankton, assistant master, Mr G. K. Glass; To Aroha D.H., infant mistress, Miss A. S. Terry; Horotiu, assistant, Mrs E. S. Ghataey; Hamilton East, assistant, Miss, D. E. Mackenzie. The school committers are to be consulted regarding the following appointments:—Mr N. R. . Smith, teacher, Kimihia; Mr* J. S. Mackenzie, secondary master, Pio Pio D.H.; Mr W. Hill, secondary assistant, Matamata D.H.; Miss G. Ellison, assist- ' ant, Te Awamutu D.H. At the meeting of the Board cf Education yesterday sympathetic reference was made to the death of Mr R. C. Smith, who' had been a member of the Board since 1915. The chairman (Mr E. G. Banks) referred in feeling terms to the deceased, who had rendered excellent service to the'cause of education, and had been a most indefatigable member. Other members also paid tribute jjfto their late colleague, and a vote of with his widow was carried. The Board also expressed.,] sympathy with the relatives of the < '•■ late Miss M. J. Mcllhone, who baa had 40 years' service with the Department, and Miss. Moyna Macken, a ' young teacher. Feeding references of sympathy were expressed for Mr D. i D. Mochier, a Canadian Inspector of Schools, who is on exchange in New Zealand' in respect to the death of Mrs Mochier, which took placo in Auckland recently.
