ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT

ACCUSED FOUND GUILTY.

SEVEN YEARS' IMPRISONMENT.

At the Supreme Court Alfred Abraham Lihd was indicted on eight counts of criminal ahd indecent assault, with respect to three different girls. Considerable interest is being taken in the case owing to the accused being an evangelist in the city, it is alleged by the Crown that he exercised malign influence over _the girls concerned in the case.

The second girl concerned repeated the evidence given by bc'r in the LoWeiCOUrt. On the occasions Lirtd behaved improperly she said she felt helpless and could neither speak hOr protest. On one occasion at Lind's house she had an irresistible impulse to kiss hint, and did so. When she had pleaded with him dho day to tell his Wife of his misdoings, lie refused, saving " I am sick of you." The .third girl stated that Lind looked into her eyes'and commanded her to meet him. She 'felt compelled to do sO. On every occasion she resisted. After a retirement of four and-a-half hours, the jury returned a verdict of guilty on one count of indecent assault, and the prisoner was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment, with hard labour.
