At the Counties' Conference a motion to 'amehd the Local Bodies' Finance ACt, so as to enable local bodies to have an overdraft at the end of the financial year not cxcGedirig 15 petcent, of the revenue of the prece'ding year, was lost by one vote. A proposal to amend the Local Bodies' Loans Act to allow of the raising of loans for the reconstruction of metalled roads Was carried. A remit in the direction of getting loans for the reconstruction of wornout or inadequate roads was adopted. The conference agreed to the proposal to allow nominations for local elections to be received 21 days before the date of an election. Remits were adopt&d in the direction of urging the uniformity of the voting paper with the Parliamentary election.

The following motion Was carried by a small majority:—That Government inspectors appointed to administer the Act be vested with full authority to institute court proceedings against owners or occupiers of land who fail to comply with the inspectors' requirements as to the cutting or clearing of noxious weeds.
