OBITUARY.

SHR3 E. BLENCOWE,

One of Te Aroha's oldest residents in the person of Mrs E. Blencowe passed away on Thursday morning,'at the age of 81 years. The late Mrs Blencowe always took an active part in the liquor question, championing prohibition. She was an ardent Reformer, and at the last by-election was an active member of the committee. She was very highly respected, having lived in Te Aroha for about 35 years. She was always a staunch supporter of the Methodist Church.

MR HORACE HAMMOND

By Telegraph.—Press Association DARGAVILLE. Thursday.

There died at Te Kopuru hospital this morning* after a long illness, Mr Horace Hammond; aged 59 years, for many years an architect, surveyor, and engineer.

Deceased was a prominent Freemason for many years, and was Mayor from 1913 to 1914. He leaves a widow and grown-up family of seven sons and a daughter. One son is an architect in England, and the others arts in Auckland. His brothers arc Captain R. Hammond, General Manager of the N.S.S. Company, and S. B. Hammond, of the Kauri Timber Company, Auckland.

OLD RESIDENT OF NELSON.

NELSON, Thursday. Mr James McEaehen, aged 75, an old ahd respected resident and a veteran printer, died to-day. Deceased assisted in publishing the first issue of the Dunedin Star and Nelson Mail, lie was a Freemason, and was s'CCrclary of the Southern Star Lodge fur 25 yc;irs.
