SATURDAY'S GAMES

HAMILTON DEFEAT CAMBRIDGE. Tile main attraction at Hinemoa Park on Saturday was the representative game in which the elect of Cambridge met a combined Hamilton team representing United and City clubs, while the competition match between Athletics and Frankton proved an added attraction. HAMILTON (17) v. CAMBRIDGE (10) Hamilton won the Loss, and with a view of obtaining the advantage in the second half of the game elected to kick off with the sun in their faces. During the first few minutes of play the scene of activity 4/as kept at midtield, but before long Hamilton led an attack into the Cambridge quarter, the visitors being kept busy defending for a term. A spell of ragged play was then witnessed on the Cambridge line, the red and whites eventually having to force. The venue of play was then transferred to the home end, a free kick awarded the visitors bringing them into a still better position. A good break away by Irvine, however, quickly changed defence into attack, and the local men swept down on the visitors' citadel, but the leather was kicked into no-ball territory. Maintaining the pressure Hamilton kept play in an advantageous position, a good passing rush, initiated by Jacques, and in which all the backs participated, culminating in Hume crossing over. Early in the. match play assumed a very even nature, and it was not until the game had progressed for some time that Gawn crossed over for Frankton to score a try, which Dufty converted.
