ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
NAPIER, Saturday. Herbert White, a seaman on the trawler Nora Niven, is reported missing, and is believed to be drowned. He was a widower with six children. A search for the body in the Inner Harbour, has so far proved fruitless. DUNEDIN, Saturday.
The inquest has been completed on Charles Shand, of Balclutha, a skin buyer, who was killed at the Kakapuaka railway crossing on May 25, when an express collided with his covered-in waggon, throwing him against a post. The evidence showed that there was a clear view of the line, and the engine whistled 300 yards off and again at 30 yards. The verdict was. that death resulted from concussion of the brain, no blame being attachable to the engine-driver. WELLINGTON, Saturday.
By cutting his throat with a razor, William Johnston, aged 54 years of age, residing at Northland, committed suicide at an early hour this morning. He was discovered at 4.40 a.m., and was removed to the hospital, but died on the way. He was a married man, and had been in ill-health for some weeks.
