CHARGE AGAINST MAORI.
ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER. AFFRAY NEAR MASTERTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. MASTERTON, Friday.' Pakira Haeata, an intelligent-looking native, aged 30 years, was charged at, the Magistrate’s Court with the attempted murder, on February 4, at Blackrock, ol’ James Kenrick, a halfcaste, who, it is said, was living with llaeata’s wife. The accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial. It is alleged that Haeata resented Kenrick’s relations with the former’s wife, and visited Blackrock, situated three miles from Masterton, at ‘i o’clock on the morning of February 4. As Kenrick was leaving to drive stock to Masterton, it is alleged, he was shot three times by Haeata with a shot gun. Kenrick .then got his own gun, and, in self-defence, wounded llaeata in the arm.
