SYDNEY, March 8

The steamer Mindini, hound from Ihe Solomons to Sydney, is ashore on Melljsh Reef, off the coast of Queensland, and is in, a perilous position. All the passengers and crew have been safely landed at Herald Beacon.

Several steamers, are rushing to the assistance in response to wireless call.

A wireless message has been received b* r the secretary of the Postofllce from the steamer Mindini. It states that the vessel is in serious distress on the Mellish Reef, off the Brisbane coast, and requires' urgent assistance. , ' -

The Mindini is a twin screw steamer of 2065 tons gross register, built in 1905 by the Blythe Shipbuilding Go., Ltd., for Messrs Burns, Philp and Co., Ltd. Her principal dimensions are: Length, 280 ft.; breadth, 40ft.; depth, 18ft. She trades between Sydney and Brisbane ancl the Pacific Islands.
