HOSPITAL FOR HUNTLY.

LOAN TO BE RAISED.

MISUNDERSTANDING REMOVED

Communications werfe received by the Waikato Hospital Board at its meeting yesterday from the Huntly Medical Association, and from ur. Douglas, asking whether statements reported to have been mad© at a recent meeting of the Board regarding the f establishment of the proposed hospital at Huntly were true. , The chairman (Mr J. Bailey) stated that the position seemed to be similar to the one of which Bracken wrote, “not understood.” Continuing Mr Bailey explained that at one time the Huntly body wanted the Hospital Board to run the hospital for them, and Dr. Douglas, as president of the South. Auckland branch of the Medical Association, being under the impression that the hospital would interfere with Dr. Mac Diarmid’s practice at Huntly, had stated that the hospital could not be allowed by his Association unless Dr. Mac Diarmid was placed in charge, abd not an officer from the the-.main hospital. The fact of the hospital *being established, however, -said'Mr Bailey, would not interfere with Dr.. Mac Diarmid’s practice as medical rofficer to the Huntly Miners’ Association. Members generally expressed the. opifijop that the matter appeared to be ■a' misunderstanding, and the main thing was to immediately get on with the work of building the hospital. General discussion followed, in which members, as a whole, deplored the delay in getting the hospital built -in Huntly. The hospital would serve a big growing district, and would assist in relieving the pressure on the main institution. A piece of land had been offered for the purpose, and as this carried a subsidy of £2500, a starting point had been made, and It would be breaking faith with Miss ■j Ralph and Mr Vf. J. Ralph if the kf! project was delayed any longer. It was finally resolved to build hospital, to cost £IO,OOO, and ,to . jor row £7500 for the purpose.
