FURTHER CASES IN BRISBANE. ANOTHER DEATH REPORTED. PRECAUTIONS IN SYDNEY. (United Press Association.) Received December 7, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, December 7'. As the result of Sydney being declared an infectious port, all outward overseas and inter-State vessels now anchor down the harboun«for medical inspection. The Health Department urges an unsparing war on rats and fleas. Amongst the precautions against lleas, they advise the lucking of trousers, into the socks, and the wearing of anklets containing paraform tablets. The Department does not strongly recommend inoculation of the. general public with prophylactic scrum. At the present stage inoculation against plague is only a relative safeguard, but anyone exposed to risk should undergo treatment. In the meantime the Department is supplying serum to doctors and anyone desiring inoculation can visit a doctor. BRISBANE, December 7. Another death and several new cases of plague have been reported. SPREADING IN AUSTRALIA. NEED FOR LOCAL PRECAUTIONS. MINISTERIAL APPEAL. (By Telegraph.—Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Minister for Health made another earnest appeal for precautions against plague in the House to-day. He said the disease was still spreading ■in Australia, and it would be very difficult to prevent plague rats and plague fleas reaching New Zealand. A general clean-up was wanted, so that a dangerous epidemic might be averted.
